From Survival to Scale: Dr. Vishal Vilas Ghag’s Journey Offers Real Lessons in Entrepreneurship”

Dr. Vishal Vilas Ghag, Managing Director of Slikun Institute of Management & Technology, was recently featured on the cover of CEO Magazine. His journey and philosophy offer compelling insights into what it truly takes to build impact in today’s entrepreneurial landscape.

“I wasn’t trying to start a business—I was trying to prove a point: quality education should not be a privilege.”

In a system where education is often reduced to degrees rather than direction, Dr. Ghag has been building a model that challenges this norm. An entrepreneur, educator, consultant, and counselor, his journey is defined by conviction over convenience.

Raised in a lower middle-class family with four generations in defense services, discipline and empathy were ingrained early. His academic path—engineering, management, and psychology—was driven by one core question: How do people truly learn and grow? This led him to pursue a doctorate in development psychology and develop a holistic learning model.

The Turning Point

“The loudest validation wasn’t applause—it was a room full of students saying ‘Yes’ to clarity.”

During an alumni lecture at his engineering college, he saw students facing the same confusion he once had. Their overwhelming response to understanding real-world industry dynamics became the foundation of Slikun—an institution built to prepare individuals for life, not just exams.

From ₹5,000 to Scale

“I started with ₹5,000, a computer, and a belief that refused to break.”

The early days were marked by financial struggle and personal challenges, including a difficult phase in his personal life. With minimal resources, he travelled across the country, often skipping meals and selling personal belongings just to continue his work.

For nearly a year, he trained over 2,000 students—many for free or at nominal cost—with a simple principle:

“Learn first. Pay later—only if you believe it was worth it.”

That belief—that quality education should be accessible and holistic—eventually gained trust. Word-of-mouth growth followed, creating a snowball effect. Today, many of those early students support others financially, sustaining the ecosystem. What began as a simple, trust-driven approach gradually evolved into a powerful model. The belief that quality education should be accessible, practical, and holistic started resonating with students. Over time, trust replaced skepticism, and word-of-mouth became the strongest driver of growth, creating a natural snowball effect.

Beyond Education: Building Entrepreneurs

“If education creates job seekers alone, it is incomplete.”

Through Pratibhashala Foundation, Dr. Ghag expanded his vision into entrepreneurship incubation. Since 2019, the foundation has helped launch 80+ micro-businesses across India without charging any fee, along with conducting workshops across institutions.

His approach reflects a larger mission: creating self-reliant individuals, not dependent systems.

A New Learning Model

“Degrees don’t fail people—systems that ignore real-world readiness do.”

Recognized by DPIIT for innovation, Slikun has trained 60,000+ students across India and 14 countries. Its flagship Slikun MBA Program has received national recognition for affordability and impact.

What sets it apart is its integrated approach—combining industry exposure, psychological development, and personalized mentoring.

“We don’t just teach subjects—we build clarity, confidence, and capability.”

Entrepreneurship & Values

“I didn’t choose entrepreneurship for freedom—I chose it to solve a problem at scale.”

His journey has reinforced a key belief: clarity of purpose outlasts struggle. While challenges are constant, adaptability and consistency define long-term success.

A major influence has been his father, Retd. Inspector Vilas Ghag, whose service beyond duty instilled a deep sense of responsibility and work ethic. He also draws inspiration from leaders like Ratan Tata for aligning business with social impact.

What Sets Him Apart

“Empathy helps you understand problems. Resilience helps you solve them.”

Dr. Ghag attributes his journey to empathy, resilience, and action. His ability to connect with real-world struggles has enabled him to build practical, impact-driven solutions.

Looking Ahead

“The future of education is not information—it is transformation.”

With a strong foundation, the focus now is on global expansion and building integrated ecosystems combining education, career development, and mental wellness. He also envisions contributing to broader educational reform through institutional and policy-level collaborations.

Advice to Entrepreneurs

“Start with a problem, not an idea.”

His advice is simple: focus on real problems, build trust before scaling, and stay consistent through uncertainty. Long-term success comes from creating value, not chasing numbers.

Recognitions

Dr. Ghag has received multiple national and international awards, including the Bharat Vibhushan Award (2024), Ratan Tata National Icon Award (2025), Icons of Asia Award (2023), Education Icon of Award (2023) and Edupreneur Director of the Year (2022), among others.

Closing Thought

“Success is not measured by how many people you reach—but by how many lives you change.”
